Renowned for his cutting edge comedy and intrepid social commentary, double Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee (2007 & 2011) and star of Sky’s JOHN BISHOP’S ONLY JOKING and BBC’s LIVE AT THE APOLLO, host of the BBC3 EDINBURGH COMEDY MARATHON & series regular on Sky’s WALL OF FAME, Andrew Maxwell is always a must-see for any comedy fan.
Always adept at making shrewd, balanced and very funny political observations, Maxwell was one of the first comics at the 2011 Edinburgh Festival to react to the riots in England and the Arab Spring and evolve his act accordingly to rave reviews and a nomination. He has just finished performing his exciting new 2012 Edinburgh show THAT’S THE SPIRIT at the Assembly Rooms George Square to sell out audiences. He followed this with a run at London’s Soho Theatre. He also performed at the Montreal Just For Laughs Comedy Festival (incl. a performance at the televised American Dream gala) just before he headed to Edinburgh in the summer.
This Autumn, Andrew filmed his first ONE NIGHT STAND for the Dave Channel (ably supported by Chris Ramsay and Benny Boot) which will air on Weds 12thDecember. He will also soon be seen on Sky Atlantic’s DON’T SIT IN THE FRONT ROW, which is hosted by Jack Dee, and MONUMENTAL, a new BBC NI series hosted by Adam Hills which will start airing in the New Year.
Later this year, Andrew will again be seen on Sky Atlantic in their new and exciting comedy series, Edinburgh smash hit SET LIST. He appears in one of the UK episodes and also performed at a special from Los Angeles which was hosted by Matt Kirshen. Other comedy talent involved in the series include Robin Williams, Roseanne, Drew Carey, Ross Noble, Hannibal Burress and Greg Proops and it will air from the Autumn.
In the next month, Andrew will also record appearances on Dave’s ALEXANDER ARMSTRONG’S BIG ASK and also Radio 4’s IT’S NOT WHAT YOU KNOW…
Andrew also appeared in Sky Atlantic’s first original comedy series, MORGAN SPURLOCK’S NEW BRITANNIA, alongside Shappi Khorsandi and Ruby Wax, which aired earlier this year. He had a four part Radio 4 series ANDREW MAXWELL’S PUBLIC ENEMIES commissioned in 2012 with producer Sam Bryant which will be recorded in 2013.
Last September, Andrew presented an authored documentary for BBC3, CONSPIRACY COACH TRIP: 9/11 (with Renegade Pictures) which aired around the 10 year anniversary of the events: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b014gpjx. A new three part CONSPIRACY ROAD TRIP series began airing on BBC3 on Monday 1st October with the first episode focusing on the 7/7 Bombings and the second on Creationism. The third episode TX’s on Monday 15th October and the subject matter of UFOs has already attracted some attention.
Andrew has appeared on recent series of BBC’s HAVE I GOT NEWS FOR YOU, ITV2′S CELEBRITY JUICE, the Dave Channel’s ARGUMENTAL, BBC2′s MOCK THE WEEK and R4’s THE NOW SHOW cementing his reputation as one of the country’s most sought after comedians.
Throughout his career, Andrew has had many sell-out shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and has also performed at The Amnesty / Channel Four Secret Policeman’s Ball (alongside Eddie Izzard, Chevy Chase and Dylan Moran – ‘Maxwell turned it around… he made us feel part of an event.’ – Times), Glastonbury, Kilkenny’s Cat Laughs, The HBO US Comedy & Arts Festival in Las Vegas (alongside Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock), and several appearances at the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival.
Andrew has won and been nominated for several other major awards including the Time Out Live Award for Best Stand-up, the Loaded Magazine Award for Best Stand-up and the Chortle Award for Best Contribution To The Live Comedy Circuit. He was also voted Best Irish Comedian by the public at the Entertainment.ie Awards
He has now recorded three Live DVDs with 2Entertain (CONFLICT REVOLUTION, ANDREW MAXWELL: LIVE & ANDREW MAXWELL: ONE INCH PUNCH) and will film a new one in 2013.
Andrew is a founder member of ALTITUDE, a comedy festival staged in the Alps every Spring.
